This short video makes one of the strongest cases I’ve seen for expressing love through giving and serving. Narayanan, shows how much joy he receives by being a companion to the forgotten.
Warning! If you are the type who tears up you had better have some tissues ready!
What this video shows is doing service is a matter of discovering our passion and then offering our time and love. Tuning in to our feelings of what brings us joy will naturally lead us toward knowing how we want to be of service to others.
Naryanan Krishnan was a bright, young, award-winning chef with a five-star hotel group, short-listed for an elite job in Switzerland. But a quick family visit home before heading to Europe changed everything. He saw a very old man [eating] his own human waste for hunger. Krishnan said. “It really hurt me so much. I was literally shocked for a second. After that, I started feeding that man and decided this is what I should do the rest of my lifetime.”
My sister Sharon loved animals, particularly dogs. One day she discovered that there was a wonderful dog sanctuary not far from her, a home that took in dogs no one else wanted. Sharon gave her time and money there and found that it brought her great joy to help maintain this loving dog home.
Each of us needs to find the service that enlivens us, excites us and fills our heart with joy as we express our love through our daily actions.
Anything you offer that expresses your love is service – encouragement to someone struggling, a caring smile to a stressed check out clerk, a compliment to someone for a job well done, or helping a mother carry a pushchair up some stairs.
Naryanan shows us how the joy of giving is the joy of living but what about you? What’s your favourite way of expressing your love through service? Leave me a comment and let me know. I look forward to hearing your story.
